KNOW THE ARTIST

Sergio "El Toro" Torres was born in December of 1977 in Miami, Florida. Born to a Cuban father and a Salvadorian mother. Sergio was raised with four siblings, including his twin brother. His affinity for art began at a young age when his parents bought him his first pack of crayons and a coloring book. A few years later he began improving his artistic talent by copying other drawings with a pencil.

 

Unfortunately, school teachers complained to his parents that he was always drawing and not doing classwork, even though his sketches were progressing significantly.  His parents forbade him from drawing in school in order to focus on classwork; thus putting his art on hiatus for many years until his early twenties.

 

His twin brother was the reason why his art was resurrected. He knew the artistic talent Sergio possessed and persuaded him to do his college art assignments. Every art project improved his talent, especially since he was getting introduced to an influx of diverse and historical artists. Their styles, techniques, and mediums, inspired him to be as great as they were.

 

While having no desire to attend college, his motivation to become a great artist led him to become self taught. He experimented with different mediums for many years until he found his niche after a friend gave him oil pastels as a gift.
